Own Bowl Gluten Free Banana Bread: need I say more? This recipe is the first in a series of “Grammy Recipes” that I’m going to share with you all!
Grammy is my mom’s mom, and she makes the best banana bread. It’s moist, sweet, fluffy, and super addicting. When I was in college she would send me a loaf in a care package. As soon as I opened those packages I’d immediately serve myself a very generous slice, drop some butter on it, and throw it in the microwave. If you’ve never done this with banana bread…you’re missing out.
Pretty sure I never shared her banana bread because it was too good and I had to hoard it all for myself. Anyone else terrible at sharing their favorite foods?
Well, you may not have access to Grammy’s banana bread, but for this series, I’m going to “healthify” her recipes. Yes, I will 100% continue to eat banana bread when Grammy makes it for me, but now I can eat banana bread every day without any guilt.
I made this recipe gluten free, using oat flour, and sweetened it with maple syrup instead of the cup of sugar Grammy’s recipe called for. No shame if you love cookies with that much sugar occasionally, but as I said, I wanted to create a recipe that you could eat every single day.
Did you know that oats are higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates than other grains? I didn’t either until I just googled it. So BAM, no reason not to enjoy a piece of this banana bread slathered in peanut butter every day.
I also subbed Greek yogurt for the oil, or shortening in this case. You only need two tablespoons, so if you’re like me and sensitive to dairy, it shouldn’t bother your stomach.
Another major plus of this recipe, you only need one bowl! Yep. Just mix together the wet ingredients, then stir in the dry, throw it in a bread pan, bake for 45 minutes, and BINGO you’ve got yourself the best gluten free banana bread ever. According to me anyways.

The best gluten free banana bread you could ask for! Made using oat flour, maple syrup, and Greek yogurt, this healthy banana bread if the perfect every day snack!
- 2 tbsp Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 cup mashed banana (2 bananas)
- 1 3/4 cup oat flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips optional
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Line a bread pan with parchment paper or non-stick cooking spray.
Mix together the wet ingredients. Start by mashing the banana, then mix in greek yogurt and maple syrup.
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until just combined.
Add any additional mix ins you'd like. Nuts or chocolate chips are both great!
Place in oven on center rack and cook for 45-60 minutes, or until you stick a fork into the middle and it comes out clean.
Remove from oven, let cool, and enjoy!
