Heathy smashed sweet potatoes with green onion, goat cheese and K-Mama Sauce are sweet, spicy, and easy to make! They are a perfect holiday side dish–they look super impressive, but are actually quite easy to throw together.
I can’t believe Thanksgiving is already creeping up on us. Two and a half weeks… SERIOUSLY?! Don’t get me wrong, I’m really excited for the holiday season, but I’m also in denial that winter is about to hit in full force. For the last week and a half it has been gray, cloudy, and cold in the Twin Cities. We’ve even had a few snowflakes fall! I guess it really is time to start sharing holiday goodies with you all.
These healthy smashed sweet potatoes are the first in a series of recipes I’ll be sharing featuring K-Mama Sauce! I met KC Kye, the founder of K-Mama, at the Gluten Free Food Festival earlier this year. We immediately hit it off and I’m so excited to be working with them.
If you’ve never tried K-Mama Sauce before, there are two variations, original and spicy. They’re both a combination of sweet and spicy, with one just being a little spicier than the other. I’ve heard it compared to a better version of Sriracha. Which in my world is high praise, because I love Sriracha. You can literally put this stuff on anything and it will taste great. Seriously, I have some dessert recipes coming out with them, and it even tastes good in those!
The combo of this sauce with the healthy smashed sweet potatoes is addicting. If you make this dish for Thanksgiving or Christmas, make sure you get yourself a serving before people go back for seconds. Because they for sure will be going back for seconds of these smashed sweet potatoes.
Wondering how to make them? As always, I kept it really simple for you all. Just clean your potatoes, cook them halfway, smash them down (hence the name), then cook in the oven. Top with goat cheese, green onion, and K-Mama Sauce and you’ve got yourself a super tasty dish. And they look fancy so you can impress all of your friends and family.
You ready for the recipe?! Before we get there, I’ve got my first ever recipe video to show you! Thanks so much to Isaac from Sanborn Arts for helping me make this video. Hope you like it!
Now that you’re drooling, time to share the recipe for the Healthy Smashed Sweet Potatoes!
Heathy smashed sweet potatoes with green onion, goat cheese and K-Mama Sauce are sweet, spicy, and easy to make. Making them a perfect holiday side dish.
- 6 medium sweet potatoes
- 1.5 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup K-Mama Sauce
- 1/3 cup goat cheese
- 1/4 cup green onion
- salt and pepper, to taste
Bring a pot of water to boil. In the meantime, wash sweet potatoes.
Add sweet potatoes to boiling water and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until a fork can just barely pierce the skin.
While potatoes are cooking, chop green onion and crumble the goat cheese.
Heat the oven to 450 degrees and prep a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Drain potatoes and lay out on a cutting board. Slice potatoes in half and place them on the baking sheet.
Using the bottom of a drinking glass, slowly press down on the sweet potato halves, allowing them to smash down and expand out.
Drizzle sweet potatoes with olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper, then transfer to oven to cook for 30 minutes. Sweet potatoes are done with the edges start to brown!
Remove potatoes from oven and create small indents in the middle using a spoon.
Dress the sweet potatoes starting with a spoonful of K-Mama Sauce, followed by goat cheese, and finally green onion.
