The Story Behind Get Well With Em
One of the hardest parts while setting up this blog was deciding on a name. I was setting the groundwork for everything that was to come and because of this I wanted it to be perfect. When I sent “Embodied Wellness” to my sister so she could start working on my logo, it was like being on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and saying, “Yes, final answer” when you have $1 million on the line. *Note: since writing this post I have changed my blog name to Get Well With Em*
Get Well With Em stems from my Instagram account, “Embodied Wellness.” If you’ve been following me over there for a while, then you know that the account used to be “tiuems.” This whole thing started when found Tone It Up during my senior year at James Madison University and began my fitness journey. Over time, @tiuems transformed from an account meant for fitness check-ins and accountability, to a way to connect with like-minded women.
I turned to my Instagram for inspiration and to share things with others that would hopefully inspire them in return. As the fitness check-ins dwindled and I found myself sharing lessons I’d learned more often, I decided it was time to leave my Tone It Up handle behind and transition to an account that could cover every aspect of my healthy lifestyle. EmbodiedWellness was born. *As of 4/24 my Instagram account name is @getwellwithem so that everything is under the same name and easy to find 🙂 *
At first, I was playing around with the idea of picking a name with ‘em in it like “UpandAtEm” and “WhoNeedsEm” to name a few. But I want followers to be able to see my handle and instantly know that this isn’t just a fitness account, it is also a place they can come to for inspiration and advice. That’s where the wellness piece came in. Wellness encompasses the mind, body and soul. At least to me it does. Once I settled on wellness, I had to figure out a way to tie my name in.
So I started brainstorming more words containing “-em”. The thesaurus became my best friend. When I saw “embodied” it resonated with me in a way that other words hadn’t. I jotted “EmbodiedWellness” down on my list of possibilities. While I didn’t end my search for the perfect word just yet (perfectionist problems) I kept coming back to that name.
As I began brainstorming fun ways that I could play with the name “EmbodiedWellness,” I knew I was onto something. I want to lead people on a path that allows them to embody a fully well life. A life filled with positive energy, delicious food, and a daily dose of sweat. The wellness wheel encompasses the mind, body and soul and that’s what I plan to cover here.
